The Best Apps for Horse Racing in Australia

2/18/2014

The Australian market is one that has been growing quite rapidly over the last few years. It’s a sport that many probably wouldn’t associate with Australia due to the popularity in Aussie Rules, cricket and rugby. But horse racing is actually as popular in Australia as anywhere in the world and to accompany this popularity they have some of the richest horse races going.
What differentiates Australia from say the UK was the speed in which they integrated mobile devices into their horse racing legacy. The timescale has been much longer than the UK, but having said that, even over the last couple of years the country have started to embrace mobile technology within the horse racing industry and apply it as the fantastic tool it is. Below we have included some of the best Australian horse racing apps to use which will range between bookmakers, live streaming apps and that of dedicated racing apps. Within in each section we feel that these apps can be used together to form a really comprehensive mobile horse racing portfolio for Australian punters.

William Hill Australia Horse Racing App

For those of you who are familiar with Australian betting markets then it’s highly likely that you will have come across William Hill Australia. These guys have been leading the line for Australian bookmaking for a number of years now and they have been able to establish themselves as one of the best bookmakers for horse racing within the country. Before we continue to tell you about what’s on offer from the William Hill app, we would like to point out that they actually finished top of the pile in a recent comparison article we wrote a few weeks ago.
It’s the depth of markets that really makes William Hill Australia stand out for us. In all honesty it does feel as if the company were targeting the UK and European racing markets in a much broader scale than say their native Australian markets. But over the years, as popularity in the sport continues to rise, they have managed to create as in-depth market coverage in Australia as any bookmaker we have come across.
The app itself is beautifully, yet simply designed and the race cards produce a set of really competitive market lines to bet on.
The app is pretty versatile and is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry devices. A more comprehensive look at the various Australian based bookmakers can be found in our Australian Betting Apps section.

Racing Network Official

The key to any good horse racing app is the depth in which they are able to go in order to provide the widest range of information for their punter. Racing Network have produced a simply stunning horse racing app that includes more features than you could ever possibly want from a racing app. In fact, the only thing that you can’t do from the app is bet directly on a market.
The main feature of the app for us was their live streaming service. This included all Victorian and Sydney races and whilst this is where it ended, the rest of the country had coverage in the form of live, instant results, news and also access to the dedicated television channel. On top of all this you can get unprecedented coverage of just about every jockey, trainer and horse from Australia with a staggering amount of information included. Unfortunately, this sort of horse racing tool doesn’t come for free. You can get weeks membership for $5.49 or you can invest in its monthly for just $19.99 which is actually a really good price when you consider how much information is on offer from this single app.

TAB Australia

TAB offers its users the chance to not only research their racing markets, but also place bets directly through the app. It’s probably one of the most in-depth horse racing apps we have tested in terms of market coverage with all three disciplines covered from all parts of Australia. Whilst many apps, say from the UK, will automatically cover all races without regard to region, Australian coverage can fluctuate and is often spread out over separate networks and apps.
TAB is much more designed towards the bettor rather than just the horse racing fan. It’s designed around getting the best price for each horse along with offering the widest range of betting types. Having said that, they do offer a decent amount of information on each horse or race, but it doesn’t really get near the Racing Network Official app for this kind of information. TAB users can enjoy access to both Sky 1 and Sky 2 channels which include a good amount of horse racing, so streaming is taken care of. Also, it’s worth bearing in mind that this app covers a lot more than just horse racing, so if you like to bet on other sports as well, then this could be the one to go for.
We especially like how well this app and Racing Network Official’s app complement each other and think you would be hard pressed to find two better for all types of horse racing fans and punters alike.

Special Racecourse Apps

It’s surprising how few Australian race courses actually have a dedicated app, but the ones that do are actually really good. Apps such Melbourne Cup and Spring Feature Races allow you to find a ton of information on specific events and races taking place throughout the racing calendar. Now these apps are primarily aimed at people looking to do extensive research on past races, but do prove especially handy when making decisions for betting.
Additionally we would like to some sort of live streaming, although both do offer video replays of races that have taken place. They are both particularly solid apps and whilst they are very targeted in terms of who will use them and for how long, there aren’t any other with more information on those specific featured races.
